Clearwire taking WiMax broadband to prepaid
When it comes to 4G mobile technology it seems like we’re all caught up in LTE. MetroPCS will launch the nation’s first LTE network, and that could be within the next month. But there’s another 4G technology, WiMax, that has actually been around for a bit. Sprint and Clearwire have teamed up to build out the nationwide WiMax network, and as expected it’s not easy to pick up subscribers. But now, according to mocoNews.net, Clearwire will on Monday announce a pay-as-you-go WiMax service that will combine with Sprint’s 3G network to create a powerful prepaid broadband offering.
The details are sparse as the moment; even the combination with Sprint’s 3G network is a guess, though it wouldn’t seem like a good idea to go straight 4G, since not every market is wired up yet. Clearwire’s offering will now join Virgin Mobile in a more aggressive approach towards prepaid mobile broadband. As we saw last week, Virgin will offer a $40 monthly unlimited broadband plan.

National broadband plan promotes health IT, telemedicine
The Federal Communication Commission’s national strategy for broadband issued today emphasizes health care, including electronic health record adoption and use, health data exchanges, telemedicine and mobile health services.

FCC wants faster Internet for government buildings

The Federal Communications Commission will deliver a broadband strategy to Congress on Tuesday that identifies high-speed Internet access as the “great challenge of the early 21st century” and calls on government to reform policies and laws to encourage expansion and improvement of the commercial broadband infrastructure.
